Effects of Data Accuracy in Aggregate Travel Demand Models Calibration with Traffic Counts

چکیده

This paper concerns with aggregate calibration of urban travel demand model parameters from traffic counts. A bilevel sequential Non-linear Generalised Least Square Estimator (NGLS) has been proposed to calibrate a travel demand model. The first aim was to find out the effects of the required input data accuracy assumptions on the model calibration. The second aim was to show the possibility to improve model link flows estimation performance even if the starting demand model was properly calibrated by using expensive disaggregate data. An experimental analysis was carried out on a real middle-sized town: the model was calibrated and validated under different “a priori” assumptions on data accuracy level of the starting data. The employed data were a traffic counts set and a maximum likelihood starting estimate of the travel demand model parameters.

On Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models

There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...

An Alternative Approach to Centroids and Connectors Pattern: Random Intra-Zonal Travel Time

In traditional traffic assignment procedure, each traffic analysis zone is represented by one point in its geometric center which is connected to the network by several connectors. Results of studies show that different connector patterns would result up to 10% change in estimated volume and up to 20% change in total travel time. Also the different patterns of connectors can change the priority...

Developing a Model of Heterogeneity in Driver’s Behavior

Intelligent Driver Model (IDM) is a well-known microscopic model of traffic flow within the traffic engineering societies. While it is a powerful technique for modeling traffic flows, the Intelligent Driver Model lacks the potential of accommodating the notion of drivers’ heterogeneous behavior whenever they are on roads. Concerning the above mentioned, this paper takes the lane to recognize th...

Calibration of Dynamic Traffic Assignment Models

Accurate calibration of demand and supply simulators within a Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) system is critical for the provision of consistent travel information and efficient traffic management. Emerging traffic surveillance devices such as Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) technology provide a rich source of disaggregate traffic data. This thesis presents a methodology for calibration...

Off-line Calibration of Dynamic Traffic Assignment Models by

Advances in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have resulted in the deployment of surveillance systems that automatically collect and store extensive network-wide traffic data. Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) models have also been developed for a variety of dynamic traffic management applications. Such models are designed to estimate and predict the evolution of congestion through detail...
